Hall of Famers and Legends
Over four hundred and fifty people attended the Doveton Football Club inaugural Hall of Fame and Legends night as part of our Fifty Year Celebrations at the Grand International Hotel Dandenong. As soon as you walked in you could feel the atmosphere as old friendships were reunited and as past players, officials and supporters from all over Australia gathered for the biggest show the club has seen. The show started with a slide show of past glories to the sound of Queens - We will rock/We are the champions on two big screens and that set the tone for the night. The President Mark Woolgar welcomed everyone, handed over to Andrew Simpson and Steve Hendy and away we went, on the big screens flashed the history of each of the first ten years and then the first Hall of famers were announced. Kevin Hall, Jack Green, Bert Batten, John Edwards, Vic Conquest, Bob Richards, Jack Peacock, Stephen Charles, Mick Lanyon, Frank (Rocky) Clifford,  and Keith Whelan.

We have a break and then back into it, the next ten years history is flashed up on the screen, Hendo reads out the highlights and then Simmo announces the next group of indutee's.  Roger Edwards, Alan Osborne, Bill Batten, Bill Stephens, Steve Henwood, Isabel Batten, Wes Keenan, Keith Wilson, Barry Fraser, Alan Meginess and Jim Hulme.

Right says Simmo there's no break this place is humming so lets keep the momentum going, our third decade history flashes before our eyes with commentary and then the next group is inducted, Eric Dawes, Graeme Downe, Graeme Henwood, Mick Atwell, Mark Bass, Don Henwood, Mick Jolly, Tony Ashwood, Bran Tibballs, Graeme Hall,  and Arnie McNamara.

The next ten years of history goes by and the next group of Hall of Famers is inducted, Patrick Henwood, Leigh Clifford, Mark Mitchell, Stuart Batten, Mark Ladgrove, Andrew Dean, Jeff Potter, Gary Willemsen, Steve Hendy, Leon Egan, and Russell (Jack) Marshall.

The last ten years of our great clubs history fly's by with the room full of expectation and the inductee's are, Adrian Brown, Scott Miller, Margaret Downe, Fay Hendy, David George, Dean Johnson, Matthew Miller, Ryan Hendy, Justin Hill, Bradley Downe and Clint Wilson.

Fifty five Hall of Famers are announced and to every one inducted well done.  Simmo now announces there will be six "LEGENDS" of the Doveton Football Club named, the first Kevin Hall, the second Bert Batten, the third Frank (Rocky) Clifford, the fourth Stephen Henwood, the fifth Wesley (Doc) Keenan and the sixth Graeme (Doggie) Downe. Well done Legends.

Then all the hand shaking and dancing began. But what do you do when it's over, do you kick on, or do you save yourself for the "SUNDAY BARRELL" I saved myself and had a ball at the barrell until I hit this huge wall.  To Simmo, Hendo, Bert and Vicki you sure put on one hell of a turn, thanks.
